After graduating from Duluth Central High School, Annie attended Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, obtaining a degree in Public Relations and English. Annie then took two years to serve in an AmeriCorps Program (think the Peace Corps within the US). She spent one year teaching in a high school in Yakima, Washington and one year in an inner-city Chicago middle school.
Back in Duluth since 2008, Annie has been working in the Northeastern Minnesota region on supporting youth and communities. She worked for four years at the Duluth Area Family YMCA coordinating the True North AmeriCorps, a program that provided staff for mentoring, tutoring, and after-school programming in schools and youth programs.
Annie currently works for the Carlton – Cook – Lake – St. Louis Community Health Board through a grant focused on making the healthy choice the easy choice in schools communities to provide healthy eating choices, active living opportunities, and supporting tobacco free living through policies, systems, and environmental changes. She works with coalitions across the region to provide structures that give students access to healthy food options in schools and the opportunity to be active throughout their school day – including safe walking and biking to school efforts.
Annie is passionate about Duluth, actively committed to gathering a broad number of voices to a table, and enthusiastic about working alongside the Duluth Schools and community members to work on the next plan for success for the Duluth Schools.
In her spare time, Annie thoroughly enjoys riding her bicycle, spending time with her family, and singing karaoke with friends.
